What BITS Pilani Mumbai Campus is
The Mumbai campus of Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani is a purpose-built professional education campus in Kamba, near Kalyan, approximately 60 kilometres northeast of central Mumbai. The campus spans 63 acres and was formally inaugurated in February 2024, though its flagship institution — the BITS School of Management (BITSoM) — has been operating since 2021.
The campus houses three distinct schools under the BITS Pilani deemed university umbrella:
BITS School of Management (BITSoM), established 2021, offers a two-year full-time residential MBA. The programme has a formal collaboration with London Business School (LBS) for a global immersion programme at LBS’s London campus. BITSoM is the primary institution on this campus and the one with the longest track record.
BITS Law School (BITSLAW), established 2023, is approved by the Bar Council of India and offers two five-year integrated programmes: BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons). The curriculum includes four specialisations — Technology & Media Law, Corporate & Financial Law, Entertainment & Sports Law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
BITS School of Design (BITSDES), established 2024, offers a four-year Bachelor of Design (Hons) with five specialisation tracks: Physical Product Design, Digital Product Design (UI/UX), Design Research & Insights, Experience Design, and Visual Design.
The parent institution, BITS Pilani, holds an A++ NAAC grade (valid November 2024 to November 2029, CGPA 3.68/4.00) — the A++ category is awarded to fewer than 4% of NAAC-accredited institutions in India.
Who it’s for
BITSoM MBA is aimed at working professionals and fresh graduates who want an alternative to IIM-track programmes. The school accepts CAT, GMAT, and GRE scores and takes a profile-holistic approach rather than cutoff-driven selection. Median CAT score of admitted students has held around 94–95 percentile across the 2022–2024 intakes. Students with STEM backgrounds seeking a technology-management bridge are a strong fit, particularly given the 3+2 BE+MBA pathway.
BITS Law School is for students who want a residential law education with an emphasis on corporate and technology law. Admission uses CLAT, LSAT India, and BITS Law Admission Test (BLAT), with a minimum 45% in Grade 12.
BITS Design School targets students with a design aptitude who want a structured four-year degree. Admission requires valid scores in NID DAT, UCEED, or BITSDAT.
The campus is also relevant for current BITS Pilani engineering students (Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad campuses) who can pursue the 3+2 Intercampus Dual Degree — three years of B.E. at a STEM campus followed by the two-year BITSoM MBA, without needing a separate CAT score if CGPA ≥ 7.0 is maintained through the second year.
Programs offered
MBA — BITSoM (2 years, PG)
Full-time residential programme. Total cost to student: approximately ₹28.55 lakh (tuition ₹23.85 lakh + one-time admission fee ₹1.5 lakh + accommodation ₹3 lakh + refundable security deposit ₹20,000). The 2025 batch (Cohort 5) numbered 146 students. Audited placement report for 2025 shows average CTC of ₹21.00 LPA, median CTC of ₹20.52 LPA, and highest of ₹32.50 LPA.
BA LLB (Hons) — BITS Law School (5 years, UG)
Integrated law programme approved by the Bar Council of India. Annual tuition approximately ₹7.37 lakh; total programme cost around ₹36.86 lakh (tuition only, excluding residential fees of approximately ₹3.28 lakh per year).
BBA LLB (Hons) — BITS Law School (5 years, UG)
Same fee structure as BA LLB. Admission intake: 60 students per programme.
Bachelor of Design (Hons) — BITS Design School (4 years, UG)
Total tuition approximately ₹29.4 lakh over four years, with an additional hostel fee of approximately ₹12.6 lakh. One-time admission fee ₹40,000. Intake: 120 students.
5-Year (3+2) Intercampus Dual Degree — BE + MBA
A joint pathway for current BITS Pilani STEM campus B.E. students. Students spend three years at their home campus (Pilani/Goa/Hyderabad), then transition to BITSoM for the two-year MBA. No separate CAT or other MBA entrance exam required if CGPA ≥ 7.0 at end of second year. Graduates receive two separate degrees — a B.E. from BITS Pilani and an MBA from BITSoM.
Campus and infrastructure
The campus is located in Kamba, on the outskirts of Kalyan, within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It is a fully residential campus — all three schools require students to stay on-campus, and accommodation fees are built into the programme costs. The campus was formally inaugurated in February 2024, so physical infrastructure is relatively new.
The commute from central Mumbai is approximately 60 kilometres; the campus is accessible via the Central line rail network to Kalyan, then onward transport. Prospective students should assess commute times for weekend activities and internship travel, as the location is peripheral to Mumbai’s business districts (BKC, Nariman Point, Lower Parel).
BITSoM’s LBS collaboration gives MBA students access to a two-week immersion programme at London Business School’s London campus, including work with LBS alumni founders on startup challenges.
Things to verify before applying
BITSoM:
- The MBA programme admitted its first cohort in 2021 — it has produced four batches as of 2025. Placement data is audited (Cohort 4/2025 report audited by Brickwork Analytics, same auditor as IIM Ahmedabad), but the institution is still early-stage relative to established B-schools.
- Confirm current fee structure directly with BITSoM admissions (adcomm@bitsom.edu.in), as fees have been revised across cohorts.
- The LBS immersion is a programme component, not a joint degree; verify scope and current terms with BITSoM before treating it as a degree-level credential.
BITS Law School:
- The school is BCI-approved, which is the minimum regulatory requirement for a law degree to be recognised in India. Verify BCI approval status and any recent regulatory changes.
- The school admitted its first batch in 2023; placement data for law graduates is not yet publicly available.
BITS Design School:
- Established in 2024 — the first batch has not yet graduated. No placement data exists.
- Verify which entrance exams are accepted for the current admission cycle (NID DAT, UCEED, or BITSDAT).
Location:
- The campus is not in Mumbai city proper but in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region near Kalyan. Factor in travel time to internship sites and city access.
