What the University of Bristol Mumbai Enterprise Campus is

The University of Bristol Mumbai Enterprise Campus is the first international campus of the University of Bristol, a leading Russell Group research university ranked 51st globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026 — the highest of the four UK universities opening India campuses in 2026, and eighth in the UK. This is also Bristol’s milestone campus, launched in its 150th anniversary year.

The campus is located at the Cignus Powai development in Powai, Mumbai, directly opposite IIT Bombay, placing it within one of Mumbai’s most active technology and innovation corridors. The campus is scheduled to open in August 2026, with the inaugural cohort expected to enrol up to 250 students. A five-year target of over 2,500 students has been set.

The campus received a Letter of Intent from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) in July 2025. It operates as Bristol’s first overseas campus and is designed around the model of Bristol’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus in the UK — combining academic teaching with industry collaboration and applied research.

Who it’s for

Students who want a high-ranked British research university degree in Mumbai, specifically in quantitative disciplines. The programme portfolio is tightly focused: Data Science, Economics, Finance, FinTech, and Immersive Arts. Students with strong Mathematics backgrounds will find the most relevant options here.

The entry requirements are selective — the BSc Data Science programme requires 90% aggregate in Class 12 including 90% in Mathematics, placing it among the more demanding entry thresholds of any UK branch campus in India. This reflects Bristol’s positioning as a research-intensive institution with high academic standards rather than a volume-intake campus.

The campus is well-suited for students who value industry connectivity: partners include Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), ICICI Bank, IIT Bombay, and the British Council. An MoU with TCS provides access to AI research collaboration, industry projects, internships, and talent mobility pathways.

Campus and infrastructure

The campus is situated at Cignus Powai, on Hiranandani Gardens Road near Powai Lake, directly opposite IIT Bombay. Powai is a mixed-use district with technology companies, startups, residential areas, restaurants, and green spaces — with strong transport links to the rest of Mumbai.

Infrastructure includes teaching and research facilities, laboratory spaces, and access to Bristol’s Isambard-AI supercomputer resources for relevant research and coursework. The Isambard Global Visiting Professorship Scheme brings visiting academics from Bristol’s UK campus and international partners; the inaugural visiting professor is Kushe Bahl, a McKinsey partner leading AI and analytics in India.

A £1.5 million philanthropic gift from the Shanta Foundation funds student exchange mobility between Mumbai and Bristol, supports research collaborations, and creates the Shanta Chair — an academic role bridging India-UK work on climate, health, and AI.
