What IIM Bangalore is
The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), established in 1973, is among India’s top three management institutions. It is ranked #2 in the NIRF Management Rankings 2024 and holds triple accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA). The campus sits on Bannerghatta Road in south Bangalore, a 120-acre campus with significant green cover in one of India’s largest technology and business hubs.
IIMB’s flagship programme is the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), a two-year, full-time, campus-residential programme. Unlike IIM Ahmedabad, IIMB places notable emphasis on entrepreneurship, it runs the NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL), one of India’s better-known business incubators, from its campus.
Who it’s for
IIMB draws candidates interested in consulting, entrepreneurship, technology-driven businesses, and general management. Bangalore’s position as India’s startup and technology capital makes IIMB a natural hub for candidates interested in working with technology companies or entrepreneurial ventures post-MBA.
The minimum CAT qualifying percentile for the 2026 admission cycle is 85 for General category candidates, with section-wise cutoffs (VARC: 80, DILR: 75-80, QA: 75-80). However, competitive candidates in the General category typically score 99.7+ overall to receive a PI call. The programme admits approximately 550-600 students per batch across PGP and PGPBA.
Bangalore as a location is a significant draw, students have access to corporate offices, startups, and industry contacts throughout their two years, unlike more isolated campus environments.
Programs offered
Post Graduate Programme (PGP), MBA, 2 years: The flagship programme. Admits approximately 500 students annually. Case-study intensive, with elective flexibility in the second year. Consulting is the dominant placement sector (41% of placements in 2025), followed by BFSI.
Post Graduate Programme in Business Analytics (PGPBA), 2 years: A specialised programme integrating management with data science and analytics. Co-offered with the Statistics and Mathematics Unit. Admissions through the same composite score process as PGP.
Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP), 1 year: For working professionals with significant work experience. Accepts GMAT. 2025 EPGP average package: Rs 35.5 LPA, median Rs 33.1 LPA.
Fellow Programme in Management (FPM): IIMB’s doctoral programme. Fully funded with stipend.
Campus and infrastructure
IIMB’s 120-acre campus on Bannerghatta Road includes integrated residential facilities, a library, sports complex, healthcare centre, and the NSRCEL entrepreneurship hub. On-campus accommodation is available for all PGP students in the first year; second-year students may choose to live off-campus.
The campus is approximately 20 km from the city centre (MG Road / Indiranagar areas) and well-connected by road. Bangalore’s size and traffic make commuting considerations relevant for students choosing off-campus housing in Year 2.
Things to verify before applying
- Fee structure for 2025-27 batch: The official IIMB page published fees of Rs 26 lakh for the 2024-26 batch. Fees for the 2025-27 batch are likely higher, confirm on iimb.ac.in/pgp-programme-expenses before applying.
- Mess charges: Mess advance of approximately Rs 30,000 per term is charged separately from the programme fee.
- Placement by sector: Consulting dominates (41% of 2025 placements). If your target is not consulting, ask about non-consulting roles available and what percentage of students pursue them.
- PGPBA vs PGP: Both programmes are full-time, residential, and two years. PGPBA is more quantitative and analytics-focused. Confirm current intake and programme structure differences before applying.
- NIRF rank fluctuation: IIMB has ranked between #2 and #3 in the NIRF Management category in recent years. Verify the current year’s ranking on nirfindia.org.
