Overview

IIM Indore’s Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) is a 5-year dual-degree programme (BA in Foundations of Management + MBA dual degree) that admits students directly after Class XII.^[1] Established in 2011, the IPM is one of the few pathways to an IIM degree at the undergraduate level.

Why it’s in this guide: The IPM is not a liberal arts programme. It’s included because it is frequently cross-shopped by students also considering liberal arts universities. Students weighing Ashoka, Jindal, or FLAME often also consider IIM Indore IPM as a “safety” or “alternative”, particularly those interested in economics, business, or management careers.

IIM Indore is one of India’s top business schools, consistently ranked in the top 5 IIMs by various rankings. The IPM programme carries the IIM brand, which provides strong placement outcomes.

5-Year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM):^[1]

• Years 1-3: Foundation courses in humanities, social sciences, quantitative methods, and management

The first three years include courses in economics, sociology, psychology, philosophy, and literature, making it partially a liberal arts experience, though strongly management-oriented.

Note: This is fundamentally a management programme, not a liberal arts degree. The humanities exposure is foundational, not deep.

Campus and Location

IIM Indore’s 193-acre campus is in Rau, about 14 km from Indore city centre. The campus includes modern academic blocks, hostels, a management development centre, library, and sports facilities. The campus is fully residential.

Indore is central India’s largest city, known for its food culture and growing business ecosystem. The campus is well-maintained and offers a traditional IIM residential experience.

Who Applies Here

IIM Indore IPM attracts high-achieving Class XII students who want a direct pathway to an IIM MBA without going through CAT. Competition is intense, IPM AT is one of the most competitive undergraduate management entrance exams.

Students compare IPM with Ashoka (liberal arts), Jindal (liberal arts + professional), SRCC (DU commerce), and other IPM programmes (IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Bodh Gaya). The IIM brand and guaranteed MBA component are the primary draws.^[2]

At ~INR 5 lakh/year for the first 3 years (and higher for the MBA years), the total 5-year investment is significant (~INR 35-40 lakh total). However, IIM placement outcomes typically justify the investment.

Things to Verify Before Applying

• This is a management programme: IPM is a 5-year integrated management degree, not a liberal arts programme. If you want deep humanities study, this isn’t the right fit.
• IPM AT is highly competitive: IPM AT (IIM Indore) involves quantitative aptitude, verbal ability, and writing. Preparation is intensive and typically requires coaching.
• Fee escalation in Years 4-5: The MBA years (Year 4-5) have significantly higher fees than the foundation years. Budget for the full 5-year cost.
• Exit option: You can exit after Year 3 with a BA degree, but this forfeits the MBA component, which is the programme’s primary value.
• Batch size and selectivity: ~150 seats with thousands of applicants. IPM AT cutoffs are high. Have backup options.
