What IIM Kozhikode is
The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), established in 1996, is a public management institution set up by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Kerala. It is ranked #3 in Management by NIRF 2024 and holds triple accreditation from AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS — placing it among a small group of Indian business schools with all three international accreditations.
IIMK operates from a purpose-built campus on the Kunnamangalam hilltop on the outskirts of Kozhikode (Calicut). The flagship programme is the two-year residential Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), which awards a PGDM-equivalent degree. Following the IIM Act of 2017, IIMK awards an MBA degree.
Who it’s for
IIMK’s PGP attracts candidates with strong CAT scores who want a residential management education in a campus-focused environment. The minimum qualifying CAT percentile for the 2025-27 batch is 85 overall (with 75 sectional) for General category applicants. Competitive candidates typically score significantly above these minimums — these are eligibility thresholds, not selection benchmarks.
The programme fee for the 2025-27 batch is Rs 23.5 lakh for two years, based on official IIMK fee pages. This is lower than the older IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta) but comparable with IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow.
Candidates seeking a one-year option can consider the PGP-BL (Business Leadership) or the EPGP (Executive PGP), which accept GMAT in addition to CAT.
Programs offered
Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP), MBA, 2 years: The flagship programme. Full-time, residential. Structured around six terms over two years. Uses a mix of case study, experiential learning, and live projects. No formal forced specialisations in the core PGP; students choose electives across finance, marketing, strategy, operations, and HR.
Post Graduate Programme in Finance (PGP-Finance), 2 years: A specialised variant of the PGP focused on corporate finance, investment, and banking. Same programme fee structure as the core PGP.
Post Graduate Programme in Liberal Studies & Management (PGP-LSM), 2 years: Targets candidates from humanities, social sciences, law, and arts backgrounds. Combines liberal arts grounding with management education.
Post Graduate Programme in Business Leadership (PGP-BL), 1 year: A one-year full-time programme for professionals with senior-level work experience. Accepts GMAT.
Executive Post Graduate Programme (EPGP), 1 year: A one-year residential PGDM for working professionals with at least five years of experience.
Fellow Programme in Management (FPM): IIMK’s doctoral programme. Fully funded with fellowship for admitted scholars.
Campus and infrastructure
IIMK’s main campus sits on approximately 100 acres on a hill in Kunnamangalam, about 15 kilometres from Kozhikode city. The campus includes academic blocks, faculty residences, student hostels, a library, sports facilities, and dining facilities. All PGP students are required to live on campus.
Kozhikode is a Tier-2 city in northern Kerala with an international airport (Calicut International Airport) offering direct flights to major Indian metros and Gulf cities.
Things to verify before applying
- Fee amount: The official IIMK website lists the PGP 2025-27 programme fee as Rs 23,50,000 for two years. Confirm current figures as fees can change between batches.
- CAT cutoffs: The eligibility threshold (85th percentile for General) is a minimum to register, not a call-for-interview guarantee. IIMK shortlists for WAT-PI based on an Aggregate Index Score that weights CAT at 50%, Class X at 15%, Class XII at 20%, diversity at 10/5%, and work experience at 5%.
- Stage 1 vs Stage 2: Completing online registration (Stage 1) does not guarantee a PI call. Stage 2 shortlisting is based on the composite index.
- Placement data: The 2025 placement report showed an average of Rs 28.05 LPA and median of Rs 27 LPA for the PGP batch. Verify current figures on the official IIMK placement page.
- Accreditation value: Triple accreditation (AACSB + AMBA + EQUIS) is relevant if you are considering international career paths or executive roles where employer recognition of the credential matters.
