What the University of Liverpool Bengaluru Campus is

The University of Liverpool Bengaluru Campus is the first India campus of the University of Liverpool, a founding member of the Russell Group and one of the UK’s leading research universities. Ranked 147th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026, Liverpool has over 300,000 alumni across 187 countries and operates one of the most successful international branch campuses in the world — the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in China, which now enrols approximately 27,000 students across two campuses.

The Bengaluru campus is located at Alembic City, Bengaluru — one of the city’s integrated developments for education, research, and innovation. The campus is scheduled to open to students in September 2026, with the inaugural cohort expected to number approximately 250 students. Admissions for the 2026 intake opened in late 2025.

The campus has received a Letter of Intent from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) under the 2023 regulations for Foreign Higher Educational Institutions, making Liverpool the second UK university (after the University of Southampton) to receive UGC approval for an independent campus in India. Degrees awarded by the Bengaluru campus are full University of Liverpool degrees, following the same curriculum and academic standards as the UK campus.

Students considering the Liverpool Bengaluru campus should weigh it against other UK branch campuses in India (University of Southampton in Gurugram, University of Bristol and University of Aberdeen in Mumbai) as well as established Indian institutions. Liverpool’s Game Design programme — a first for UK branch campuses in India — is a distinctive offering for students in that niche.

The campus also offers a study-abroad exchange pathway: students at the Bengaluru campus may spend a semester at the UK campus (included in tuition), and Liverpool’s UK students may come to India. Final-year transfer to the UK campus is also an option.

Campus and infrastructure

The campus is housed at Alembic City, a modern integrated development in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area. Infrastructure includes smart classrooms designed for case-based and flipped-classroom teaching, research and innovation spaces, collaborative learning hubs, specialised laboratories (including Bloomberg terminals for finance and business programmes), and an embedded co-working hub for faculty, entrepreneurs, and student teams.

The campus is designed as a 360-degree learning environment with modular spaces that can rapidly reconfigure for different modes of learning. Residential accommodation is planned to be added as student numbers grow in the second and third years.

Things to verify before applying

• Fees: The university has stated fees will be “under half of what students pay in the UK” and will be set in the local context. Specific programme-by-programme fees were not publicly available as of April 2026 — verify directly via the admissions portal at bengaluru.liverpool.ac.uk.
