Overview
Miranda House, established in 1948, is a women’s college of the University of Delhi ranked as the #1 college in India by NIRF for seven consecutive years (2017-2023) and #2 in 2024.[1] The college holds NAAC A++ accreditation and DBT Star College status, the highest grade, and has maintained a top-2 NIRF ranking since 2017. NAAC accreditation progressed from A+ (first cycle) to A++ (second cycle) per the Miranda House Prospectus 2025-26.
Located on the North Campus of Delhi University, Miranda House offers BA, BSc, and BA programmes across a wide range of humanities, social sciences, and science subjects.[2] The college is known for its strong academic culture, active student societies, and vibrant campus life.
As a DU constituent college, Miranda House follows the DU curriculum and admission is through CUET UG. The college’s NAAC A++ grade and consistent #1 NIRF ranking make it one of the most sought-after undergraduate institutions in India.

Campus and Location
Miranda House’s compact 6-acre campus is on the North Campus of DU, adjacent to the University of Delhi main campus. Despite its small size, the campus is green, well-maintained, and has a distinctive character with its red-brick buildings.
The college has a hostel for outstation students, though capacity is limited. Most students commute from across Delhi-NCR.
The North Campus location provides access to the DU library, other colleges, and the vibrant student culture of Kamla Nagar and the surrounding areas.
Who Applies Here
Miranda House attracts high-achieving women from across India, drawn by the #1 NIRF ranking, NAAC A++, and DU’s reputation at a fraction of private university costs. CUET cutoffs for popular programs like English and Psychology are among the highest in DU.
Students compare Miranda House with LSR (also women’s, South Delhi), and with St. Stephen’s and Hindu College (coeducational, North Campus). Among private alternatives, the comparison is about structure: DU curriculum vs. flexible liberal arts at Ashoka/FLAME/Jindal.[3]
The key advantages are: exceptional institutional quality, negligible fees, and Delhi’s professional ecosystem. The trade-offs: not residential (limited hostel), women-only, and DU’s structured curriculum.
Things to Verify Before Applying
- CUET UG requirement: Admission is through CUET UG only. Check NTA schedules and Miranda House’s cutoff trends for your program.
- Women’s college: Miranda House is exclusively for women. Coeducational DU options include St. Stephen’s, Hindu, and Hansraj.
- Hostel availability: Limited hostel capacity. Outstation students should plan PG accommodation as backup.
- #1 NIRF ranking context: The #1 NIRF college ranking is for the ‘Colleges’ category (not universities). Understand what this measures, it reflects teaching, research output, and peer perception.
- DU curriculum: Miranda House follows DU’s syllabus and exam pattern. If you want an interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum with elective flexibility, consider private alternatives.
