What University of Southampton Delhi is

University of Southampton Delhi is the India campus of the University of Southampton, a Russell Group university ranked #81 globally (QS 2025). The campus is located in the International Tech Park, Gurugram, Haryana, and admitted its first cohort of approximately 170 students in August 2025.

This is an International Branch Campus (IBC), not an independent Indian university. The degrees awarded are University of Southampton (UK) degrees. The campus is regulated by the University Grants Commission of India under the UGC (Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations, 2023 — the first foreign university to receive a UGC Letter of Intent under this framework, in August 2023. This is materially different from the IFSCA-regulated campuses at GIFT City (Deakin, UOW): Southampton Delhi operates under UGC/mainland India rules and its degrees are subject to AIU equivalence processes for Indian public-sector roles.

Southampton has maintained institutional relationships in India for over 50 years, with collaborative research across several IITs, JNU, and TISS. The India campus extends that engagement into formal undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Who it’s for

Students who want a University of Southampton degree while studying in India, avoiding the cost and complexity of relocating to the UK. The fees are substantially lower than studying at the UK campus, though still significantly higher than Indian public universities. The programmes are most relevant to students targeting careers in technology, finance, consulting, and management who want an internationally recognised degree and access to Southampton’s global alumni network and employability infrastructure.

Students from families in the NCR region who want a residential or semi-residential degree without international relocation may find this campus particularly relevant. Students who want NIRF-ranked or NAAC-accredited Indian degrees should look elsewhere — this campus operates under a different regulatory framework.

Campus and infrastructure

The campus is located at the International Tech Park, Gurugram (Haryana). Physical infrastructure details beyond the office address are not comprehensively documented in public sources as of early 2026 — the campus is in its first academic year. The prospectus notes access to Southampton’s MyCareer platform, an e-mentoring network of 2,500+ alumni, and a placement cell in Delhi.

Students benefit from Southampton’s global alumni base of 280,000+ across 185 countries, and alumni chapter events across major Indian cities.

Things to verify before applying

  • Degree recognition for Indian public-sector roles: University of Southampton Delhi degrees are UK university degrees. AIU (Association of Indian Universities) equivalence is the standard route for recognition in Indian government or PSU contexts. Confirm the current AIU status before applying if this matters to you.
  • UGC approval status: The UGC Letter of Intent (August 2023) was the regulatory first step. Confirm that full approval and campus registration are current at the time of your application.
  • Fees: The prospectus directs students to southampton.ac.uk/ip-courses for current fee schedules. Fees quoted for the 2025 cohort ranged from ₹15.4 lakh to ₹39.6 lakh depending on programme. Confirm current figures with the admissions office.
  • Placement data: The campus admitted its first cohort in August 2025. No verified placement data exists as of April 2026. The campus has a placement cell and employability support, but outcomes are unverified at this stage.
  • Credit transfer and progression: The brochure confirms preferential progression to Southampton UK for postgraduate study after completing an undergraduate degree at the India campus.
