What University of Wollongong India is
University of Wollongong India (UOW India) is the India campus of the University of Wollongong, an Australian university ranked in the top 1% globally (QS 2026) and specifically in the top 200 for the quality of its graduates (QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022). The parent university is ranked 16th globally among modern universities (Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2024) and equal 31st for UN Sustainable Development Goals impact (THE Impact Rankings 2025).
The campus opened in July 2025 at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat — India’s first and only IFSC (International Financial Services Centre). It is the second International Branch Campus to become operational in India, after Deakin University GIFT City.
Regulatory framework: UOW India is regulated by the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), not the UGC. GIFT City operates as a special economic zone, and IFSCA-approved IBCs do not require UGC approval. Degrees awarded are University of Wollongong (Australia) degrees. Students who need recognition in Indian government employment or regulated professions should obtain Association of Indian Universities (AIU) equivalence — a routine but additional step.
UOW India’s business school is AACSB-accredited, placing it in the top 6% of business schools globally. The campus has partnerships with IBM, ANZ Bank, Afthonia Lab/Ayekart FinTech, Odoo, Glomo Payments IFSC, BeFree, Gen8i, Rubiscape, and Allied Digital Services for curriculum integration and career readiness.
Fees at UOW India are denominated in Australian dollars (AUD) per the 2026 Course Guide — this is unusual for an India campus and students should verify whether INR payment options exist at the time of application.
Who it’s for
UOW India is primarily suited to students targeting careers in financial technology (FinTech), data analytics, applied AI, and computing. The GIFT City location provides direct proximity to a growing concentration of financial services, fintech, and technology companies within the SEZ. The IBM partnership and industry integrations make this relevant to students who want curriculum with immediate industry connections.
The campus offers both postgraduate programmes (for graduates looking to specialise) and an undergraduate degree starting July 2026 (for school leavers). For students specifically interested in data analytics and AI, the MSc Data Science at Indian universities offers a comparison point — though the UOW India programmes are Australian degrees in a specialised FinTech/GIFT City context.
Students needing UGC-recognised Indian degrees, or those targeting roles requiring AICTE/UGC-specific credentials, should verify recognition before enrolling.

Campus and infrastructure
The GIFT City campus is purpose-built for student use within the smart city environment. Infrastructure includes library (online and print resources), study spaces, a gym (Pragya Facility), cafes and food courts with 20+ international cuisines, a health clinic, hospital access, and 24-hour pharmacies — all within or immediately adjacent to the GIFT City development.
UOW India offers a list of vetted accommodation providers near the campus, including Bliss Serviced Apartments, Januson PG, and Union Living (women only). Accommodation is not on-campus — students arrange their own housing from the recommended provider list.
Industry visits have included the Cyber Crime Cell and India INX, reflecting the campus’s positioning within the financial services sector.
Things to verify before applying
- Fee currency: The 2026 Course Guide states fees are payable in AUD only (“Course fees above are only accepted if paid in Australian currency (AUD)”). Verify whether INR payment is available at your time of application, and check current AUD/INR exchange rates when computing total cost.
- AIU degree equivalence: UOW India degrees are Australian degrees. AIU equivalence is needed for Indian government roles or study applications requiring recognised Indian equivalence.
- IFSCA vs UGC: The IFSCA framework is distinct from UGC. Confirm recognition with your target employers or further study institutions before enrolling.
- Placement data: The campus opened in July 2025. No verified placement data for UOW India graduates is available as of April 2026. The first postgraduate cohort would graduate in early 2027 at the earliest.
- Undergraduate intake: The Bachelor of Business programme is scheduled to commence July 2026 — confirm intake status at the time of application.
