What this exam is

The Delhi University Joint Admission Test (DU JAT) was a national-level undergraduate entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University of Delhi. It was the gateway to management programmes — Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), Bachelor of Business Administration in Financial Investment Analysis (BBA FIA), and Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Business Economics (BBE) — at approximately 16 Delhi University colleges.

DU JAT has been discontinued. The last edition was conducted in 2022. From the 2022–23 academic session, the University of Delhi joined the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) framework, and all undergraduate admissions — including BMS, BBA (FIA), and BBE — moved to CUET UG scores processed through DU’s centralised seat allocation system (CSAS).

This page provides a complete account of DU JAT’s history and structure for reference, along with guidance on the current CUET UG route to the same programmes at DU.

Who should take this exam

DU JAT no longer exists as an active exam. If you are aiming for BMS, BBA (FIA), or BBE at Delhi University colleges in 2025–26 or later, you need to appear for CUET UG — not DU JAT.

This page is relevant to you if:

  • You are researching the history of Delhi University’s management admissions
  • You are comparing the old DU JAT format with CUET UG to understand preparation requirements
  • You came to this page looking for current DU admission guidance and need to be redirected to CUET UG

For students preparing for DU’s BMS or BBA programmes today: your path is through CUET UG. The subject combination required is one Language (Section I) + Mathematics or Applied Mathematics (Section II) + General Aptitude Test (Section III). The CUET General Aptitude Test broadly overlaps with the reasoning and awareness sections that DU JAT previously tested, so past DU JAT preparation material remains directionally useful.

Exam pattern and structure

Historical DU JAT pattern (last conducted 2022)

DU JAT, in its final form, was a computer-based test (CBT) with the following structure:

SectionNumber of QuestionsMarks
Quantitative Ability25100
Reasoning and Analytical Ability25100
General English25100
Business and General Awareness25100
Total100400

Key features:

  • Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT), online
  • Duration: 120 minutes (2 hours)
  • Question type: Objective (MCQ)
  • Marking scheme: +4 for each correct answer, −1 for each incorrect answer
  • Language: English
  • Conducting body: National Testing Agency (NTA)

The exam was conducted at centres across 20+ cities in India. It was offered in two slots on the examination day. Shortlisted candidates were then directed to the DU Common Seat Allocation System for college and programme preference filling.

Current admission route: CUET UG

From 2022–23 onwards, DU uses CUET UG scores for all undergraduate admissions. For BMS, BBA (FIA), and BBE, the required CUET UG subject combination is:

Any one Language from Section I + Mathematics/Applied Mathematics + General Aptitude Test (Section III)

Each subject is scored out of 250, so the total applicable score is out of 750. DU’s merit list is based on the combined score from these three subjects.

CUET UG 2025 pattern:

  • Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Duration: 60 minutes per subject
  • Subjects: Language paper (Section I), domain-specific (Section II), General Aptitude Test (Section III)
  • Marking scheme: +5 for correct, −1 for incorrect, 0 for unattempted
  • Conducted by: NTA

After CUET results are declared, students register separately on DU’s CSAS portal (admission.uod.ac.in), fill college and programme preferences, and are allocated seats through multiple rounds of merit-based allotment.

  • Mathematics/Applied Mathematics: Standard Class 12 mathematics covering algebra, calculus, probability, statistics, and more. Broader and deeper than DU JAT’s Quantitative Ability section.
  • General Aptitude Test (Section III): Covers general awareness, current affairs, mental ability, numerical aptitude, and logical reasoning. Broadly overlaps with DU JAT’s Business and General Awareness and Reasoning sections.

Eligibility and registration

Historical DU JAT eligibility

Under the DU JAT regime (up to 2022), the eligibility criteria were:

  • Pass Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognised board
  • Mathematics was compulsory at Class 12 for BMS and BBA (FIA)
  • Minimum aggregate marks requirements varied by programme: typically 60% for General category, 55% for SC/ST/PwD
  • Candidates appearing in Class 12 could apply provisionally

Current CUET UG eligibility for DU management programmes

Under the CUET UG framework (from 2023 onwards):

  • Pass Class 12 from a single recognised board
  • Mathematics or Applied Mathematics must have been studied and passed in Class 12 — mandatory for BMS and BBA (FIA)
  • Must appear for CUET UG in those subjects corresponding to Class 12 subjects (general rule)
  • For BMS and BBA (FIA): appearance in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics in CUET UG is compulsory
  • No direct weightage to Class 12 marks for seat allocation (merit is based on CUET UG score only), except for tie-breaking in CSAS
  • Students who have not passed Mathematics in Class 12 may clear this requirement through NIOS or another board, subject to DU’s rules

For registration: candidates register on the NTA CUET UG portal (cuet.nta.nic.in), then separately register on DU’s CSAS portal (admission.uod.ac.in) after CUET results to fill college and programme preferences.

Cutoffs and score interpretation

Current cutoffs: CUET UG scores for DU management programmes

Since 2023, cutoffs for DU management programmes are expressed as CUET UG scores out of 750 (sum of three subject scores, each out of 250). These are released college-by-college through the CSAS portal after each round of seat allocation.

CUET UG 2025 cutoffs (General category, out of 750):

CollegeBMSBBA (FIA)
Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS)555.00577.20

BBA (FIA)577.20522.03470.35410.39312.85

Scores rose considerably between 2023 and 2025 at SSCBS, reflecting increasing CUET competitiveness. In 2023, the BMS cutoff at SSCBS was 417.71; by 2025 it had risen to 555.00.

Historical DU JAT context

Under DU JAT, cutoffs were expressed in DU JAT raw marks (out of 400). The exam was considerably harder to ace because of negative marking and longer duration. Cutoffs were published on the DU admission portal after each round of allotment. These historical figures are no longer actionable for current applicants.

Colleges and programmes that accept this exam

DU JAT is no longer active. The programmes that DU JAT used to feed into are now admitting students through CUET UG.

The primary colleges offering BMS, BBA (FIA), and BBE at Delhi University include:

Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS), Rohini, Delhi — the flagship management college of Delhi University. SSCBS offers BMS, BBA (FIA), and BSc (Hons.) Computer Science. It is the most sought-after DU management college, with the highest CUET UG cutoffs among all DU colleges for these programmes. SSCBS was the main destination under the old DU JAT regime as well.

Other DU colleges offering BMS (admission via CUET UG):

  • Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce
  • Deen Dayal Upadhyay College
  • Keshav Mahavidyalaya
  • College of Vocational Studies
  • Ramanujan College
  • Aryabhatta College
  • Ram Lal Anand College
  • Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women (women only)
  • Gargi College (women only)
  • Various other DU affiliated colleges

BBE (BA Hons. Business Economics) is offered at colleges like SRCC (Shri Ram College of Commerce), which is among DU’s most competitive colleges. SRCC admissions for BBE are also now through CUET UG.

How to prepare

Since DU JAT no longer exists, this section covers preparation for CUET UG for DU management programmes.

Subject combination to prepare

For BMS and BBA (FIA) at DU:

  1. English (Language, Section I) — Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar
  2. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics (Section II) — Full Class 12 Mathematics syllabus
  3. General Aptitude Test (Section III) — General awareness, current affairs, reasoning, numerical ability

Mathematics

This is the most differentiating subject. DU management cutoffs are competitive (555+ out of 750 at SSCBS), meaning you need strong scores across all three subjects. Mathematics at Class 12 level includes relations and functions, algebra (matrices, determinants), calculus (limits, derivatives, integrals), vectors, probability, and statistics. The CUET Mathematics paper tests these topics directly. Strong Mathematics preparation is non-negotiable for BMS/BBA(FIA) applicants.

General Aptitude Test

The CUET General Aptitude Test (GAT) is a 60-question paper covering:

  • General knowledge and current affairs
  • Scientific aptitude and general mental ability
  • Quantitative reasoning
  • Logical and analytical reasoning

Prepare by reading national newspapers daily, tracking monthly current affairs, and practising reasoning questions. The GAT has significant overlap with what DU JAT’s Business and General Awareness and Reasoning sections tested, so historical DU JAT preparation material is relevant here.

English

The CUET language paper tests reading comprehension, vocabulary in context, sentence rearrangement, and grammar. Practice reading longer passages and answering inference-based questions under time pressure. Editorial sections of newspapers are the best preparation material.

Strategy and timing

CUET UG is a high-stakes exam with each subject paper lasting 60 minutes (+5/−1 marking). For DU management programmes, your combined score across three subject papers (out of 750) determines where you land. At SSCBS BMS General category, you need roughly 555+ out of 750 — that is an average of 185+ per subject. Aim for consistent performance across all three rather than banking on one strong section.

After CUET results, register promptly on the DU CSAS portal. DU does not accept applications after the CSAS window closes, and late registration is not accepted regardless of CUET score.

Key dates and timeline

DU JAT is no longer conducted. The current timeline follows CUET UG and DU’s CSAS cycle:
