What Hindu College is
Hindu College is a constituent college of the University of Delhi, located on the North Campus in University Enclave, New Delhi. Founded in 1899 by Krishan Dassji Gurwale, it is one of the oldest colleges in Delhi and has been ranked #1 among all colleges in India in the NIRF 2025 rankings — a position it also held in NIRF 2024 (NIRF 2025). The college is accredited NAAC A++ and holds DBT Star College status from the Department of Biotechnology since 2012.
Hindu College offers approximately 15 undergraduate honours programs and 14 postgraduate programs across sciences, humanities, and commerce. All undergraduate admissions are through CUET-UG scores, following Delhi University’s centralised admission process.
The campus spans approximately 25 acres in the North Campus area. The college enrolls around 3,000 students with approximately 120 faculty members. Hindu College is known for its strong academic culture, active student societies, and a Students’ Parliament that has operated continuously since 1935.
Who it’s for
Hindu College attracts students seeking a broad undergraduate education at India’s top-ranked college. The college draws applicants across disciplines — from physics and mathematics to English literature and political science — who want the combination of academic rigour and the vibrant cultural life of a DU North Campus college.
The college is particularly strong in sciences (the DBT Star College recognition reflects research orientation in biological and physical sciences) and humanities (English, History, and Political Science departments have long-standing reputations). Students pursuing careers in civil services, academia, journalism, research, consulting, and the creative industries commonly come from Hindu College.
Hindu College’s alumni include figures across politics, media, business, and the arts. The college’s location on North Campus puts students within walking distance of SRCC, St. Stephen’s College, Miranda House, and other top DU colleges, creating a concentrated academic and cultural ecosystem.
Prospective students should note that Hindu College, like most DU colleges, is a day college with limited hostel seats. Outstation students should plan for private accommodation.
